Explanations on some rankings:

Number 5, Packers: The whole world held it’s breath in the second quarter of Sunday night’s game when Rodgers went down and had to be carted off the field. Then, he did what Rodgers does. He came back with one leg and proved he can carry his team no matter what, even against competition on the rise. His defense also did something it hasn’t done in a long while, and that is step up when he needs them to. That’s enough to move them up 4 spots in the ranking.

Number 7, Saints: The Saints were probably most people’s biggest lock pick for week 1, and they certainly failed to live up to anything close. Their highly touted defense got scalded by a Ryan Fitzpatrick lead Buccaneers offense, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s panic time in New Orleans. Their defense got off to a rough start last year, and unless they follow this performance with similar struggles in week 2, I think their offenses firepower and their defenses comeback potential is enough to keep them in the top 10.

Number 13, Chargers: An 0-4 start like last year is the last thing Chargers fans want this year. They seem to always have it on paper, only to fall short in games. A team that was supposed to sit on the throne of the AFC West opened up their season with a divisional loss to the Chiefs. It’s not panic time yet, but if that defense doesn’t step up, and if the offense doesn’t play with a little more pop, this season could be another average one.

Number 21, Buccaneers: Can what the Bucs did be sustained? That’s to be determined; but for now, they deserve the number 21 spot. Their defense struggled as usual, but that offense made up for it by staying with the Saints and overwhelming them. If the Bucs can manage another upset in week 2, look for this team to skyrocket in the rankings once again.

Number 31, Lions: Probably the biggest shock of this list, but can you blame me? This team got embarrassed on primetime to a Jets team that doesn’t seem ready to compete for real just yet. Combine that with already poor coach-player relations being reported, and this team could be in for a double-digit loss season in the highly competitive NFC and NFC North.
