The Saints vs Rams game was one of the most highly anticipated games of the season. The game lived up to the hype with a final score of Saints: 45 and Rams: 35 the teams scoring a combined 80 points! The game pitted the top two NFC teams against each other, both teams with high-velocity offenses. The Saints fearsome trio of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas picked apart a strong Rams defense making it look easy. The Saints defense isn’t as strong as the Rams’ and the Rams heavy hitting offense of Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and a solid receiving core exploited this but in the end, it wasn’t enough.
The Saints won the day, but does that hand them the NFC title?
I don’t think so.
There’s no denying the strength of both of these teams as they both have a strong record of 9-1 and for good reason. Both teams’ offenses are insane with some of the best quarterbacks, running backs and receivers in the league. In my mind, one key factor puts the Rams atop the Saints for the NFC title. Their defense. The Rams have one of the league’s top defenses forming a formidable obstacle for most any team, Saints seemingly being an exception, to get through. The Saints, on the other hand, don’t have as strong a defense, but they make up for that in their powerhouse offense. The Saints struggle to stop big plays and stop teams from putting points on the board.
At the end of the day, I believe the Rams have a have a stronger and a more rounded team than the Saints and they still deserve the NFC’s top spot, despite their loss. However, depending on the layout of this years’ playoff bracket, I wouldn’t be surprised if these two teams were to face each other once again. If that rematch comes, then we may finally be able to definitively lay this debate to rest. Until then let us know what you think, have the Saints earned the NFC title?
