Free Agents the Buffalo Bills Should Sign

With Free Agency just around the corner, teams will be very busy for a while creating cap space, trading, and of course, signing players. Here’s my list of the Free Agents the Buffalo Bills should go after:

• OL Trent Brown. Brown has been a tremendous player for the New England Patriots over the past season, and will demand top money when Free Agency begins. Brown was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Patriots on April 27th, 2018, along with a 4th round pick, in exchange for a mid round pick. Brown totaled 5 penalties during the 2018 season (4 holding 1 false start). He is currently entering his 5th year in the league, and is expected to be one of the highest paid Tackles after Free Agency is all said & done. If he does become the highest paid tackle, it will be much deserved for the work he’s put in the past year.
• Matt Paradis. Paradis, a Super Bowl champion, is coming off a season cut short after suffering a fractured fibula where he only played in 9 games. Paradis is believed by many to be the best Center this off-season, and should get paid like it as well. There has been reports of Paradis & the Denver Broncos agreeing to a new deal, but that looks unlikely now as we come closer to Free Agency. Buffalo is coming off a season where their Offensive Line was historically bad, so Paradis would be a big boost to their OL.
• Darryl Williams. Williams is from Carolina, so this one is almost a no-brainer. Williams is coming off a serious knee injury that he suffered in training camp. He would later play 1 game of the season, but would go on to miss the remainder of the 2018 season after re-injuring his knee. Williams has spent his entire career in Carolina after getting drafted in 2015. This move makes sense since Williams has familiarity with GM Brandon Beane & HC Sean McDermott. I would expect to get Williams at a fair price since he’s coming off of a serious injury.
• TE Tyler Eifert. Eifert is coming off a couple major injuries the past couple of seasons. He suffered a broken ankle during the 2018 season, and underwent back & knee surgery in 2017. When healthy, Eifert can effect a game. During the 2015 season, Eifert totaled 615 yards and 13 TDs in 13 games. We know he can be a dominant player when healthy, he just needs to protect his body. If Buffalo can get him on a cheap deal, that would be a very good low-risk/high-reward option.
• CB Kareem Jackson. Jackson,30, is coming off a season where he totaled 87 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 INTs. Jackson is the type of player Buffalo needs. Their secondary is very young up and down the depth chart, so a veteran presence like Jackson could improve the secondary considerably. Jackson should get a nice team friendly contract from the Bills, and could compete for the 2nd-3rd corner spot if he signs with Buffalo.
• WR Adam Humphries. Humphries is coming off one of his best seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he totaled 816 yards & 5 TDs in 2018. Humphries is already a fan favorite between most Bills fans, and he hasn’t even signed yet. Buffalo has a tremendous need at WR and will need to fill that hole in FA/Draft soon. I would expect Humphries to receive an $8-9M deal per year.
• DT Sheldon Richardson. Richardson totaled 45 tackles & 4.5 sacks last season for the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota signed Richardson to a 1 year deal last off-season after a short stint with the Seattle Seahawks. Richardson would be a nice compliment to Harrison Phillips & Star Lotulelei while filling in for them along with Jordan Phillips. Buffalo will have to look for somebody to fill the hole left by Kyle Williams, and Richardson could buy them enough time to find that player.
• LB Thomas Davis. Davis has spent his entire career with the Carolina Panthers before Carolina abruptly announced that they will not be retaining the future Hall Of Famer. Davis, much like Williams, will not be a shocker if Buffalo signs him since he has ties with Beane and McDermott. Davis will be a nice compliment to Lorenzo Alexander and Matt Milano, and could even push Alexander to DE if needed.

Buffalo currently has $75.9M in cap space, so these moves wont be too difficult to make.
