Top 5 Destinations For Colin Kaepernick

Recently the NFL sent out a memo to all 32 teams that they’d be holding a private workout for QB Colin Kaepernick at the Atlanta Falcons stadium on Saturday. All 32 teams are invited, and videos will be provided to any team that doesn’t attend the workout. Ian Rapoport reported that several teams have inquired about Kaepernick. With that, we provide you with our list of the top 5 destinations for Colin Kaepernick

  1. Chicago Bears. Bears QB Mitch Trubisky, 25, hasn’t been so hot this year. Granted, he’s still pretty young with room to grow, but I think he’s almost reached his peak of growth. Chicago probably wouldn’t sign Kaepernick to take Trubisky’s spot, but Kaepernick could check into games later in the season. Chicago’s current backup is Chase Daniel, who is serviceable, but could be improved.
  2. Cincinnati Bengals. After benching Andy Dalton, the Bengals named rookie Ryan Finley their starting QB, and last week he didn’t look so hot. Granted, they still have Dalton on their roster, but adding another piece never hurts anything. Dalton will most likely be traded after this season, which would make a potential signing interesting to watch.
  3. Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are riding Kyle Allen for the remainder of the season after placing Cam Newton on season-ending IR. Kaepernick would be an emergency player for the team in case Allen goes down with an injury, as Carolina has Will Grier as their backup currently.
  4. Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have Philip Rivers at QB, I think we all know that, But after Rivers, they have Tyrod Taylor and rookie Easton Stick. There could be room for improvement there, or at the very least a tryout. Philip Rivers’ 4 year/$83M contract expires after this season, which could leave the door open for a possible signing next year.
  5. Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys aren’t looking to replace Dak Prescott, but they are sending out at least one representative to Kaepernick’s workout, so there’s some interest there. Kaepernick would backup Dak along with Cooper Rush; so there’s some need for a backup.

Colin Kaepernick last played in 2016 for the San Francisco 49ers where he totaled 2,241 yards, 16 TDs, and 4 INTs in 11 starts. We’ll find out if this workout jump starts a potential signing.
