Back in 2015, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took QB Jameis Winston with the first overall pick. Many people, including NFL experts, saw this as risky because the Buccaneers could have selected Marcus Mariota. Winston’s first NFL pass was a pick-six and the media went wild. That led Winston to not live up to the hype.
Bruce Arians steps in:
The Buccaneers went all in, hiring retired coach Bruce Arians heading into the 2019-2020 NFL season. Bruce Arians wanted to win immediately, but things didn’t look too good when the Buccaneers traded star WR Desean Jackson to the Philadelphia Eagles for late-round picks. Ironically, WR Chris Godwin had an incredible breakout year. Bruce Arians made his intentions clear and let the media know that the Buccaneers were “all in” on keeping Winston and progressing him into the best quarterback he can be.
Winston starts out hot🔥
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a hot start to the season at 2-2, competing with legit teams including the Saints and Rams. They beat the Rams by 15 points scoring 55 on them. Jamies Winston’s stats were on pace to break records. His interception counts were down and his touchdowns were up. He was on pace to have 40 touchdowns and 6 interceptions and that’s clearly MVP caliber stats. Winston went up against the Panthers and completely imploded…
Jamies Winston threw 5 interceptions and cost the Buccaneers to lose 37-26 against the Carolina Panthers in London. Jameis Winston took full blame and was humble about his actions. Bruce Arians was in full support mode for Winston saying that he is still their quarterback and fans should expect no change to their QB depth.
