Are the Miami Heat Contenders?

This NBA season, the Miami Heat have been one of the most surprising teams. Having only one loss at home and having a total record of 20-8. Some of their notable wins came against the Bucks, 76ers, and Raptors. Currently they are 3rd in the Eastern Conference and are looking to make a run in the playoffs. But are they for real?

Why they are:

They have multiple players who are having a great season and they clearly have the talent to hang with some of the top teams. They are led by Jimmy Butler who is having a phenomenal season (averaging 20.9 Pts, 6.5 Reb, 6.8 Ast) and they are also led by two surprising faces: Kendrick Nunn and Bam Adebayo. Kendrick Nunn was signed to the Summer League team and after surprising many people was signed to the roster. He is averaging 16.5 points and is atop the leaderboard for ROTY. After struggling in the first few years on the Heat, Bam has come alive this year. Currently averaging a double-double. Also, the Heat have other young players like Tyler Herro and Derrick Jones Jr. and still have familiar faces such as Goran Dragic and Justice Winslow. This team is loaded with talent and can do some serious damage this season.

Why they aren’t:

This team does not have a lot of experience. Outside of Jimmy Butler and Goran Dragic, their leading scorers haven’t been in a lot of big games. This could prove fatal when it comes down to Playoff time. Especially if they are in the Eastern Conference semis or even the Finals. Secondly, they lack star power. Yes they do have Jimmy Butler, but outside of him they don’t have that LeBron James type player.

They are true contenders. This team has already showed their potential and if they keep playing this way they could perform well in the playoffs. They have so much talent and some exciting young players. Plus, with Erik Spoelstra at the helms, anything is possible. The Eastern Conference is loaded though and it could be tough, but they are definitely contenders.
