Washington Football Team Roster- Offense

With roster cuts now finalized, your Washington Football team 53 man roster is now official. Here’s the overview of your 2020-21 Washington Football roster:

QB: Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen, Alex Smith

Haskins is your starting QB, no surprises here if you’ve been paying attention. Coach Rivera has stated that Haskins has done everything he asked of him back in January when Rivera was hired. Also stated that he hopes they can have as long as Rivera and Cam did in Carolina. (9 years). I expect big things from Dwayne this year. He finally has a coach that has faith in him and they’re linked together, so the success of Haskins is directly tied to Rivera. Kyle Allen is your backup. Haven’t heard much from him as far as outplaying Haskins during training camp. He played under Rivera and OC Scott Turner in Carolina last year, so he’s a serviceable backup. Alex Smith even being able to play football, let alone make an NFL 53 man roster is amazing in itself. He may not play in any games this year, but he should be in consideration for the NFL comeback player of the year race.

RB: Bryce Love, Antonio Gibson, JD Mckissic, Peyton Barber

The release of future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson was surprising. He was the only constant of this offense over the last two years, but in reality, he does not fit the new offense that Scott Turner is going to run. This offense favors guys that are able to catch the ball out the backfield, and that’s just not his style. But the more important thing is that Ron Rivera said he trust these young RBs and expects them to be a big part of the success in this offense. I think Antonio Gibson and Bryce Love are the top two in carries, mixed with JD Mckissic and Gibson who I predict to have about 30-40 receptions each. Peyton Barber is nothing more than a depth piece. His YPC has gone down every year since he was drafted in 2016, but he’s cheap at only $1.3M for 2020, and as I said, he’s nothing more than a depth piece.

WR: Terry McLaurin, Dontrelle Inman, Antonio Gandy-Golden, Isaiah Wright, Steven Sims Jr.

Terry McLaurin is the highest-drafted receiver on this team, being a third-round selection, and AGG being a fourth-round selection in this past year’s draft, everyone else is a UDFA from whenever they came into the league. The obvious top dog is Terry McLaurin who is expected to be the overall receiving leader from a catches and yards leader but after him, it’s a bunch of question marks.  AGG was also one of the sleepers of the draft, but he’s had an undisclosed injury since camp opened. But he returned to practice on Friday and hopefully he can prove his worth to the team and provide something to an offense that has so many questions. Steven Sims Jr. is expected to be a home run hitter on both offense and special teams. Inman is expected to be the number two WR for now, but expect that to change by the end of the season with the emergence of AGG. Isaiah Wright made this team by taking advantage of the opportunities given to him. With Kelvin Harmon tearing his ACL early in the summer, he was predicted to be a decent part of this offense, but Wright took the opportunity that was given to him and outplayed Trey Quinn and was given a roster spot.

TE: Logan Thomas, Marcus Baugh, Jeremy Sprinkle

This group of players might be the most underwhelming TE core in all of football. Take this for what it’s worth, all three TEs have combined 68 catches, 612 yards, and 5 TDs for their CAREERS. Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz, George Kittle and Austin Hooper all had better stats just last season alone. So I have idea what to expect for the TE group. At the end of the day, outside of Jeremy Sprinkle who I don’t think is good, there is no true body of work so there is nothing to expect.

OL: Morgan Moses, Brandon Schereff, Chase Roullier, Wes Martin, Geron Christian, Saahdiq Charles, David Sharpe, Wes Schweitzer, Keith Ishmael, Cornelius Lucas

I have yet to see this group play against other teams defensive lines, so guys like Wes Martin and Geron Christian, I have no idea how good or how bad they are. Chase Roullier and Morgan Moses are solid starters in this league, but Moses can’t stay healthy for the season. Since he’s become the starter, he hasn’t missed a game, but usually is not at full strength. We all know Brandon Schereff  is one of the best gaurds in the game, but with 15 games missed over the last two years due to injury, durability is a real question. He’s also on the franchise tag, so this year is big for him. I think Saahdiq Charles will be the starting LT by the end of the season, but he’s dealing with some calf injury to the point where he has yet to practice. When he comes to full health, I think he’s better than a Geron Christian, who the last time we saw him play was downright horrible.
