Top MVP Candidates Through 5 Weeks

We’re more than a quarter through the season (farther than most people thought the season would go, may I add), and there has been a lot of top performers so far. Some surprising ones, like Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen & Cleveland Browns OL Wyatt Teller. Some aren’t surprising like QB Russell Wilson, though. Without further ado, here is my list of top 3 MVP candidates.

  1. Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks. Wilson has been having an historic season to say the least. Totaling 1,285 yards, 16 TDs, and 2 INTs, Wilson has had the best start to the season we have probably ever seen. Wilson has been a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, causing headaches for opposing coordinators & DBs. This year may actually be the year Wilson receives an MVP vote (or more).
  2. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers. Rodgers has been lighting up the league ever since he took over for Brett Favre, so this is doesn’t come as a shock to anybody, really. What is pretty crazy, though, is that Rodgers has thrown 1,214 yards 13 TDs, and 0 INTs with a receiving core of Davante Adams (who has been injured), Allen Lazard (now on IR), Marquez Valdez-Scantling, and Marcedes Lewis. The Packers have left Rodgers out to dry for many years, and he’s still somehow found a way to dominate the league consistentlty. That in my opinion, is MVP worthy.
  3. Aaron Donald. DT, LA Rams. Donald has been his usual dominating self so far this season, totaling 17 tackles, 7.5 sacks(!!!), 2 forced fumbles, and 13 QB hits. Donald has always fallen short of an MVP award since he entered the league, but if he keeps up this fantastic play, he might give Wilson a run for his money. Donald’s best season of his career came in 2018 wheen he totaled 59 tackles, 20.5 sacks, and 20 tackles for loss. If he keeps this up, he could be on pace to beat his previous best, and the record books.

HM: QB Josh Allen. Allen has been surprisingly very good this season. Allen has totaled 1,589 yards, 14 TDs, and 3 INTs so far this season. Without his game vs Tennessee, Allen would have cracked this top 3.
