The emergence of Youssef En-Nesyri and his amazing season

When we think about the top goal-scorers in La Liga, we think of names that have been in the top for several times not only in Spain but all over Europe. We know that names like Messi, Suárez, Benzema, Aspas, Félix, and many others, can aspire to be at the top. But what about Youssef En-Nesyri? Have you heard of him? Well, now you will.

The 23-year-old Moroccan player has had an incredible season. This past Saturday, En-Nesyri scored his second hat-trick of the season (VAR canceled what would have been his poker). The young Moroccan has gone from being a good substitute player to being a key player in the Sevillian team. At the time I write this, En-Nesyri is the top-scorer or the pichichi in Spain, leading by Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona) and Luis Suárez (Atlético de Madrid) by one goal.

But even if En-Nesyri is passed on the scoring table, it would be very crazy not to recognize his magnificent season. This is what he has accomplished at the moment (after 20 match-days):

  • He has been the player who has scored the highest percentage of goals for his team in La Liga 2020/2021 (46.15%). That actually is the most in the top 5 European League, passing Robert Lewandowski who has 44,9% of Bayern goals.
  • He has been the player who has helped his team the most. Thanks to his goals, Sevilla have added 11 points (they have 36 in total).
  • He has helped Sevilla with 12 goals in La Liga and with 4 goals in Champions League.
  • He has scored two hat-tricks in a span of 14 days.

Sevilla is now in European places where, as of now, they would achieve another ticket to be part of the next edition of the Champions League. But Sevilla is still alive in the current edition of the Champions League, as they will face Borussia Dortmund in February. And if Sevilla make a great run, En-Nesyri could be a key-piece to make that possible.
