Top 3 Fascinating Players Heading Into FA

With Free Agency rapidly approaching, we’re taking a look at 3 of the most fascinating players hitting the FA market. The FA market will be pretty deep this year with a limited amount of teams having cap space to do a lot. You’ll see some players taking short 1-2 year deals & hit FA again next year when the salary cap is expected to go back up.

  1. WR Chris Godwin. Godwin is coming off of one of his best season’s with the Buccaneers, totaling 840 yards and 7 TDs on 65 receptions. There’s no doubt he should get paid this off-season, and he wants to as well. But, will the Buccaneers be able to afford his contract? “I want to be here. I love the guys on the team. I think we got something special, but, at the same time, you got to consider all the possibilities out there and consider doing what’s best for you and your family”, Godwin noted. Godwin will likely demand somewhere around $20M per year on his new contract, and with Tampa having Leonard Fournette, Antonio Brown, Shaq Barrett, and Lavonte David hitting the market, they will have some tough decisions to make. He will have a decent size market too, with the New England Patriots being rumored to have interest in Godwin.
  2. QB Dak Prescott. The Cowboys need to re-sign Dak. We all saw how bad Dallas looked without him on the field, and that may have given him a stronger case to get $35M+ per year. Dak has been reported to be a candidate for a franchise tag for the second year in a row if they can’t come to terms on an extension. A big factor in Dak getting his contract finally is how his rehab is coming from the ankle injury. All signs show he’s headed in the right direction, with a return in time for the 2021-22 season looking clear right now. With $20M in cap space, Dallas will have to move some money around & lose some players to keep Dak.
  3. RB Aaron Jones. Jones is coming off a fantastic year in 2020, totaling 1.4k total yards, and 11 total TDs. He will likely demand $15M on the open market. With Jones proving he can be a do it all versatile player in his career, he will likely get that from a RB needy team this off-season, with the Miami Dolphins & San Francisco 49ers already having interest in Jones. As the Packers have a minimal $-9M in cap space (yes, in the negatives), a return to Green Bay is looking very slim.

The tampering period will start March 15th & end on the 17th, then Free Agency will officially begin on the 17th at 4:00 PM EST.
