Top 5 QBs heading into 2021

QB rankings are a hot topic right now, and the rankings seem to be all over the place. A lot of fans will tell you Tom Brady is top 5, or that Lamar Jackson is a top 4 QB; with good arguments for those too. In this article, we will be ranking the top 5 QBs heading into this season (Minus Deshaun Watson).

  1. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes is the clear QB1 here, no debating it. What he’s done since taking over the starting job has been outstanding (or better, if there’s a word for it).
  2. Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB Packers. Getting traded or not, Rodgers has been fun to watch. What he’s done with no real receivers outside of Davante Adams has been tremendous, throwing for 4,299 yards, 48 TDs, and 5 INTs last season. Will the trade drama affect Rodgers come regular season? Probably not. He isn’t going anywhere, and a talk with management should put this all behind them, and get Rodgers focused on playing ball.
  3. Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills. Allen really took a gigantic leap from 2019 to 2020, and it was noticed around the league, earning him 2nd place MVP. Allen & his completion percentage saw steady rises every year until 2020, where everything took off. This season, Allen will have a new receiving core to work with (out John Brown, in Emmanuel Sanders), a revamped OL (Tommy Doyle, Spencer Brown), and 2nd year receiver Gabe Davis should hopefully make a jump & take over as the WR2 for Allen.
  4. Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks. Wilson had a hot start to the season last year, putting himself in MVP contention before the end of his 2020 campaign. Wilson simmered down a little bit towards the end of the season, though it didn’t matter as the Seahawks finished their season 12-4. In the 1st half of the season, Wilson totaled 2,217 yards, 28 TDs, and 8 INTs. However, in the 2nd half of the season Wilson totaled 1,845 yards, 12 TDs, and 5 INTs. Wilson’s efficiency went down a little bit, but that should change come this season with an improved OL, and hopefully a more efficient run game.
  5. Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens. There’s no doubt Lamar is very fun to watch, especially in his MVP season 2 years ago. Lamar’s passing statistics saw a steady decrease from his MVP year to 2020. In 2019 he totaled 3,127 yards, 36 TDs, 6 INTs, with 1k rushing yards, and 7 rushing TDs. 2020 we saw Jackson total 2.7k passing yards, 26 TDs, 9 INTs, along with 1k rushing yards & 7 TDs. Although his stats went down in 2020, we all know what Jackson is capable of, and with a few new WRs on the team, his passing should improve as well.
