Late this weekend it was reported that Arizona Cardinals DE Chandler Jones requested a trade earlier this off-season. Jones is in the final year of his deal & is scheduled to make $15.5M. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Jones is unhappy with his current contract & his future with the team. Any team that acquires Jones will need to give him an extension
The Ravens have built a great team around Lamar Jackson, but are still missing a dominant pass rush. They drafted Odafe Oweh in round 1, but are still missing an All-pro caliber pass rusher. Since the trade request was made known, Ravens players have been recruiting Jones to Baltimore, including CB Marlon Humphrey. In 2019, Jones was 1st team All-pro & totaled 19 sacks, 26 QB hits & 53 tackles. With $28.8M in cap, the Ravens will have room to fit a Chandler Jones extension into their cap table.
The Broncos’ pass rush can be depleted at times. With Von Miller coming off a season-ending torn Achilles, giving Denver a rotational pass rush will only bolster their defense & give them some flexibility in case of an injury. A healthy Bradley Chubb, Von Miller, and Chandler Jones will only give opposing defenses a nightmare. Denver has an approximated $28M in cap space, which will give them plenty of cap space to work with for an extension.
The Colts drafted Kwity Paye in the 1st round this year to give them a nice run-stuffing edge, but they’re still missing a dominant pass rusher on the line. Indianapolis should look to pair Jones with Deforest Buckner & Kwity Paye on the line, while also giving the LBs holes to rush through. With only $14M, they will need to create some cap space to fit his contract into their cap table to fit an extension into their future plans.
In 5 seasons with the Cardinals, Jones has totaled 61 sacks & 105 QB hits.
