NHL Midseason Awards
The 2021-22 NHL season is now halfway over. After the All-Star game concluded I sat down, looked at the stats, asked around, and determined my Midseason NHL awards.
I talked with my fellow “Thepuckwave” boys of Instagram (give a follow) and decided we all would vote for who we think the midseason Hart, Norris, Vezina, Calder, and Jack Adams should be.
Here were the results for our NHL Midseason Awards
NHL Midseason Awards
Hart Trophy
Jackson: Jonathan Huberdeau, FLA
Stephen: Leon Draisaitl, EDM
Jakob: Connor McDavid, EDM
Andrew: Connor McDavid, EDM
Sennix: Auston Mathews, EDM
This award, at least right now, is a toss-up. There has been no shortage of goals scored by any of these players listed above, especially in Edmonton. I expect this award to be neck and neck throughout the season.
NHL Midseason Awards
Norris Trophy
Jackson: Cale Makar, COL
Stephen: Cale Makar, COL
Jakob: Cale Makar, COL
Andrew: Cale Makar, COL
Sennix: Cale Makar, COL
Well, Cale Makar certainly has made an impression this year, and clearly has our attention. Makar has 18 goals with 26 assist this season and is still rolling along. The Norris could get tight down the stretch with Hedman, and Rosi having great seasons too but as of right now it’s Makars to lose. A popular choice for NHL Midseason Awards
NHL Midseason Awards
Vezina Trophy
Jackson: Igor Shesterkin, NYR
Stephen: Frederik Anderson, CAR
Jakob: Igor Shesterkin, NYR
Andrew: Igor Shesterkin, NYR
Sennix: Igor Shesterkin, NYR
The Vezina trophy is another toss-up race at the point in the season. The goalies who have had a great year, have really had a great year and there have been quite a few.
NHL Midseason Awards
Calder Trophy
Jackson: Lucas Raymond, DET
Stephen: Trevor Zegras, ANH
Jakob: Trevor Zegras, ANH
Andrew: Moritz Seider, DET
Sennix: Moritz Seider, DET
Now the Calder, a trophy that it seems most years has a wide range of options and again, that is the case. Raymond and Seider got started hot and neither have looked back, but hold on because Trevor Zegras came to the party, maybe slightly late, but it doesn’t matter because he is here and he is fully in the mix. A name to watch in this race is Minnesota Wild rookie Matt Boldy who is hot as well, with four goals and six assists in just 10 games played since his recall.
NHL Midseason Awards
Jack Adams Award
Jackson: Dean Evason
Stephen: Jared Bednar
Jakob: Andrew Brunette
Andrew: Dean Evason
Sennix: Andrew Brunette
Now onto maybe the most controversial award of them all..the coach of the year, well in our case, the coach of the “half-year”. Dean Evason shows up on two Wild fans lists, yes, but he has also had a tremendous year. The Wild are one of the best teams in the NHL this year and they’ve stayed that way despite a lot of injury trouble. Alright enough with the promotion of Dean. Bednar is the coach of maybe the most dangerous team in the league, he is a coach that does not find his team in trouble often.
Now onto maybe my favorite selection thanks to Jakob and Sennix, Andrew Brunette. Brunette took over early in the season after the firing of Joel Quenneville. He has only helped the Panthers to be a historic scoring team. The Panthers were my favorite to win the Cup at the beginning of the season and in Brunette’s hands(who scored the most historic goal in Wild history)I feel even more confident.
