CJ Henderson trade rumors; where does he land?

Late last weekend, Jeremy Fowler reported that some execs around the league believe Jacksonville Jaguars CB C.J. Henderson may be available for a trade. Henderson is a former 9th overall pick in 2020 by Jacksonville, so it surprised many people when he announced Henderson’s availability. Let’s take a look at some of the best landing spots for Henderson.

  1. New Orleans Saints. The Saints have been an interesting team to follow ever since Drew Brees’ retirement. With this new Michael Thomas drama (could he want out?), to Marshon Lattimore’s off the field issues, they’ve constantly been in the news. Now, they’ve added a few corners this off-season, including Brian Poole, Prince Amukamara, and the rookie Paulson Adebo. Adding a young corner with Henderson’s potential could be huge to take this secondary over the top.
  2. Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have had secondary issues for a long time now. They have added some players there, including rookies Kelvin Joseph & Nahshon Wright, and veteran Safety Damontae Kazee. However, that may not be enough. And if they want to win before their window closes, adding more help on defense could help them in the long run.
  3. San Fransisco 49ers. The 49ers are pretty much set everywhere on their team, however they could use another corner after losing Ahkello Witherspoon. With Trey Lance apart of their long term future, adding another corner with Henderson’s talent may be what it takes to get them back to the Super Bowl. Henderson may be the Niners missing link at secondary. With the Safety position set with Jimmie Ward & Jacquiski Tartt, adding more young talent at corner will be huge for them.
  4. Buffalo Bills. The Bills were so close to making a Super Bowl appearance for the first time since the 90s. They have added a bunch of pieces already, but none too big at corner. With the CB2 position for grabs (former UDFA Levi Wallace looks to be running away with it), adding a little more competition there would help everybody. Lining Henderson up opposite of Tre White would be nasty. With Josh Allen’s mega extension, adding more rookies/players still on their rookie deals will be how the Bills need to operate from now on.
  5. New York Jets. Finally, we land on the Jets, who had a great off-season. They seemed to focus more on offense earlier in the off-season, leaving their secondary depleted. With 2nd year corner Bryce Hall having a nice camp so far, giving a rebuilding team like the Jets more help at CB doesn’t hurt either party. 1st year HC Robert Saleh, a former DC with the 49ers, should be able to bring out the full potential in Henderson & help him flourish. If so, the Jets will have a nice young secondary core with Marcus Maye, Ashtyn Davis, and Bryce Hall.

Jacksonville’s CB room may not be as depleted as people think if they do trade Henderson. With newly acquired Shaq Griffin, Tre Herndon, Sidney Jones, and rookie Tyson Campbell, the Jaguars could still put out a decent secondary.
