Last week it was reported that Deebo Samuel would be one of many fourth-year WRs that would skip off-season workouts. Now, Deebo has requested a trade out of San Francisco. One of the reason’s to request a trade is his usage as a WR/RB, and how he’s risking his health playing both. A few teams have already been announced as suitors, so let’s take a look at some of the best landing spots for him.
Breaking News: I just spoke to wide receiver Deebo Samuel — and he told me that he has asked the 49ers to trade him.
He did not want to discuss specific reasons behind his request, but he has indeed let the 49ers know his desire to leave the organization. More to come.

1. New York Jets.
The Jets have his former DC in Robert Saleh & passing game coordinator/WR coach Mike LaFleur, so he has a lot of familiarity there already. The Jets are looking to swing big for an elite WR, being in the Tyreek Hill sweepstakes not too long ago. Deebo would fit well paired with Elijah Moore & Corey Davis, and CJ Uzomah as the pass catchers. The Jets have four draft picks in the top 40, and enough money to get a deal done with Deebo.
2. Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs have done a lot of work to their WR room, starting by trading Tyreek Hill during Free Agency. Now, they’ve replaced him with Marquez-Valdes-Scantling & Juju Smith-Shuster, and could still look to add another via the draft/trade. Deebo fits their pass-centric, high-tempo offense that features a lot of trick plays. A Deebo/Kelce trick play at the goal line should get the Chiefs brass on the phone right now. The Chiefs have a projected $38M next off-season (before the expected rise), and multiple high picks this year to get a trade done.
3. Green Bay Packers.
The Packers, much like the Chiefs, have a newfound wealth & an abundance of draft capital to play around with. After losing Davante Adams to their rivals in Las Vegas, the Packers’ WR room consists of Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb. IF they want to keep Aaron Rodgers happy past this year, landing an elite WR like Deebo, plus someone through the draft is crucial for them to get done.
4. Houston Texans.
The Texans are bought into Mills Mania for the foreseeable future, and bringing in someone like Deebo to pair with Brandin Cooks would be tremendous for his development. The Texans found a handful of top picks (pick three & pick 13) this year when they traded Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns, so landing Deebo plus another elite prospect will take their team to a new level.
It’s also worth noting that the 49ers met with do it all WR prospect Velus Jones yesterday, who has the same play style as Deebo.
