Coach Prime and the Buffaloes were making a lot of noise after forty-plus players entered the transfer portal. Many were quick to say that Colorado wouldn’t live up to the hype and that the team was diminished.
What many failed to realize was that most of those players were a part of the 1-11 team, and were expected to leave due to the cultural change. Deion knew the talent he had waiting in the transfer portal and hasn’t let this affect him.
While there were continuous reports, Coach Prime continued to say he was not concerned and to wait and see the talent they would be adding. With that said, let’s take a look at the newest Buffaloes.
Newest transfers
Starting with four-star CB Jahquez Robinson. Another great addition to an outstanding secondary, Robinson will contribute on defense along with special teams. He hasn’t seen much playing time on defense during his time at Alabama.
Next was three-star OT David Connor from Florida. While Colorado has a very strong offense, they need offensive line help. He has great size, and good in pass protection. Connor has four years of eligibility remaining.
Sticking with the offensive line, they landed a Juco transfer OT/G Kareem Harden. He is a very physical player, who if developed properly is bound to make huge strides. Don’t let the star ranking of Harden dictate the type of player he is, and can become.
Colorado landed yet another CB, Omarion Cooper from Florida State. He’s a shutdown corner who doesn’t allow his receivers to create separation. He is a four-star recruit, with four years of eligibility remaining.
Next, they flipped the commitment of WR Tarvarish Dawson Jr. He was committed to Cincinnati and has great speed. I don’t expect him to see much time on offense, but he will be crucial on the return team.
Adding to the defensive line, landing five-star Edge Sav’ell Smalls. He’s excellent in the pass rush while also providing good skills in coverage. The defensive success will rely heavily on the ability to put pressure on the QB.
Coach Prime also managed to land three more defensive linemen. This consists of Florida State transfer Bishop Thomas, Ole Miss transfer JJ Hawkins, along with Missouri transfer Arden Walker. All will contribute right away on defense and are adding much-needed depth.
Are we witnessing history?
He’s done exactly what he said back when he was first introduced as the head coach, and will now set his sights on turning the program around in 2023.
