The Los Angeles Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw are in agreement on a one-year deal worth close to $20 million, per Jon Heyman. With this deal, Kershaw will be entering his 10th season with the Dodgers, in hopes of bringing home another championship.
Last season Kershaw started 22 games, here are his stats:
12-3 (Tied-27th)
2.28 ERA
137 K’s (Tied-63rd)
0.94 WHIP
Clayton Kershaw was limited in playing time due to stints on the injured list. Early in the season, he was put on the injured list because of a hip injury. He would later go back to the injured list in August, due to a back injury.
The Dodgers brought back a key player to their pitching rotation. When healthy, Kershaw is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.
With Clayton Kershaw under contract throughout the 2023 season, the Dodgers will now focus on re-signing Trea Turner, and potentially be more aggressive in the Aaron Judge sweepstakes.
I like this move by the Dodgers. My only concern would be Kershaw’s ability to stay healthy going into 2023. The back injuries seem to be coming back every season, causing the Dodger’s ace to be sidelined for weeks.
