Jackson’s Week 25 NHL Power Rankings

Week 25 Power Rankings

  1. New Jersey Devils

Record: 24-40-6

Last Week: 29

The Devils have had an interesting season, it has not always been bad, but the results have not been good. Luck also has not been on their side, but no less. And I am sorry to my Devils fans, but you have made reached the 32nd spot for the first time this season.

  1. Seattle Kraken

Record: 22-41-6

Last Week: 31

The Kraken will stay here and avoid being number 32 on this week’s 25 Power Rankings.

  1. San Jose Sharks

Record: 29-31-8

Last Week: 28

The Sharks’ biggest money makers on the team may make it difficult to sign one of their best and young stars Timo Meier who recently scored his career-high 31 goals.

  1. Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 22-37-11

Last Week: 32

Keith Yandle was 11 games away from 1,000 consecutive games played, and Mike Yeo decided to scratch him. Yikes, move from the new coach.

  1. Ottawa Senators

Record: 26-37-6

Last Week: 30

The Senators’ season has not been good, but they have some players who showed a lot of promise, including Josh Norris, who surpassed the 30-goal mark. Anyway, a good week means up you go on this Week 25 Power Rankings.

  1. Anaheim Ducks

Record 28-31-12

Last Week: 27

The Ducks have won one game in their last 13 games…

  1. Detroit Red Wings

Record: 27-34-9

Last Week: 23

The Red Wings have nearly no goaltending right now, I mean they lost 11-2 against the Penguins.

  1. Buffalo Sabres

Record: 26-34-11

Last Week: 25

Tage Thompson surpassed the 30-goal marker this last week, which may be good enough for the most improved players this year.

  1. Arizona Coyotes

Record: 22-43-5

Last Week: 24

Clayton Keller was injured this past week after taking a bad fall into the boards, a horrible end to the season for the young star.

  1. Chicago Blackhawks

Record: 24-35-11

Last week: 26

The Blackhawks have had a lost season, and that’s not just because they have not won much.

  1. Montreal Canadiens

Record: 19-40-11

Last Week: 22

The Canadiens are trying to finish this lost season strong, and Cole Caulfield has been helping with that.

  1. Vancouver Canucks

Record: 32-28-10

Last Week: 21

The Canucks, like the Jets, have some difficult decisions to make this summer.

  1. Columbus Blue Jackets

Record: 33-32-6

Last Week: 19

The Blue Jackets are free falling, as they have now lost six straight games, and playoff hopes have faded.

  1. New York Islanders

Record: 32-28-9

Last Week: 20

The Islanders are keeping hope relatively alive going 7-3-0 in their last 10, but chances are their playoff hopes are slim to none.

  1. Las Vegas Golden Knights

Record: 39-28-4

Last Week 18

The Golden Knights are currently a point out of the playoffs…the threat continues for Vegas.

  1. Winnipeg Jets

Record: 33-27-10

Last Week: 17

The Jets have a lot of tough decisions to make this off-season, especially with their core mostly aging quickly. Kyle Connor on the other hand has had a career year scoring 40 goals.

  1. Washington Capitals

Record: 37-22-10

Last Week: 11

The Capitals are currently sitting in a Wild-Card spot, which may not be a horrible thing for a team that is much better on the road than at home.

  1. Nashville Predators

Record: 40-25-4

Last Week: 15

The Predators put a beating on the Wild 6-2 Tuesday night, who has been one of the few teams to give Minnesota a run for their money this season.

  1. Dallas Stars

Record: 40-26-3

Last Week:14

The Stars are in a very intense battle for playoffs, as they sit one point out of the top Wild-Card spot, but also a point out of being on the outside looking in.

  1. Los Angeles Kings

Record: 38-24-10

Last Week: 13

The Kings have had a great couple of months, even without their star defenseman Drew Doughty, who is hoping to make a return at some point this season but has yet to be given a date.

  1. St. Louis Blues

Record: 39-20-10

Last Week: 12

The Blues had a good week gaining points in all their games, and in a tough battle in the West, any point is important.

  1. Edmonton Oilers

Record: 40-25-5

Last Week: 16

The Oilers are 10-2-1 in their last 13 games, and they are red hot at the right time. Edmonton has been dying for a playoff win for many years but they still have some issues to fic before that.

  1. Pittsburgh Penguins

Record: 41-20-10

Last Week: 5

Jason Zucker worked his way back from an injury to make his long-awaited return to Minnesota, and in the second period, he took a nasty fall and left the game.

  1. Carolina Hurricanes

Record: 45-17-8

Last Week: 4

The Hurricanes are yet another team that is considered a top contender, but they may be stumbling at a less than ideal time.

  1. Minnesota Wild

Record: 43-21-5

Last Week: 9

The Wild scored on their first two shots of the game against the Capitals and beat Carolina well. Kirill Kaprizov also passed Marian Gaborik for most franchise points in a season with 84.

  1. Tampa Bay Lighting

Record: 43-19-7

Last Week: 7

The Lightning have a legit chance to three-peat, if they end up getting home-ice advantage I see no reason not to pick them to do so.

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs

Record: 45-19-6

Last Week: 10

The Leafs have, maybe one of the best scorers in the last decade, they have a decent defensive core, but the question is; Do they get past the first round this year? Sorry Leaf’s fans had to be asked. With their latest success, I was forced to move them up on this Week 25 Power Rankings.

  1. New York Rangers

Record: 43-19-5

Last Week: 5

The Rangers like to make things difficult on themselves, but as long as Igor plays like himself, they will always have a chance.

  1. Boston Bruins

Record: 44-21-5

Last Week: 4

The Bruins are 11-2-1 since March. 3, which puts them in an elite class when it comes to teams in the NHL. Boston has emerged as a real contender after a very average start to the year.

  1. Calgary Flames

Record: 41-19-9

Last Week: 3

The Flames have been slightly less dominating as of late, as goaltending has been sub-par, ad scoring took a step back. Calgary is still a top contender and certainly has not played badly, but they would like to gain some heat heading into the playoffs.

  1. Colorado Avalanche

Record: 50-14-6

Last Week: 2

The Avalanche had one weakness to them halfway through the season, their goaltending…an issue no more as Darcy Kuemper has been as sharp as it gets in goal over the past month. The Avs seem to be well on their way to winning the Western and making a deep run in the playoffs.

  1. Florida Panthers

Record: 49-15-6

Last Week 1

Jonathon Huberdeau has 73 assists this season, oh and to go along with that, he has 93 points…unbelievable. The Panthers are going to be among the league’s favorites heading into the playoffs.
