Jackson’s Week 5 NHL Power Rankings

Week 5 NHL Power Rankings

  1. Arizona Coyotes

Record: 2-13-1
Last Week: 32
Have we found the first NHL team that could lose to the best AHL team?

  1. Seattle Kraken

Record: 4-10-1
Last Week: 28
I mean wow, the team was projected to be in the mix for playoffs, now they are looking to sell their first franchise captain. Also remain on the bottom of this Week 5 NHL Power Rankings

  1. Montreal Canadiens

Record: 4-12-2
Last Week: 30
Not much to say about this squad other than, oofda.

  1. Ottawa Senators

Record: 4-10-1
Last Week: 29
The Sens are one of the worst teams in the NHL, but they have such a good young core to work with.

  1. Vancouver Canucks

Record: 5-9-2
Last Week: 25
The Canucks went winless this week, and that is contributed to their terrible defensive performance.

  1. Chicago Blackhawks

Record: 4-9-2
Last week: 31
The Hawks have been horrible all over the ice this year, but they have a three-game winning streak, so hey, you move up the Week 5 Power Rankings.

  1. Pittsburgh Penguins

Record: 5-6-4
Last Week: 22
The Penguins had a nearly healthy squad and still lost this weekend 6-1.

  1. Dallas Stars

Record: 6-6-2
Last Week: 27
The Stars got their first regulation win, so maybe that’s a turn for the better.

  1. New York Islanders

Record: 5-6-2
Last Week: 17
The Islanders just can’t seem to find the scoring, but they are still a good defensive team, so I expect it soon.

  1. Detroit Red Wings

Record: 8-8-2
Last Week: 16
The Red Wings have been very tough to play against, but their lack of veteran talent is evident. Although Tyler Bertuzzi has been on fire as of late.

  1. Buffalo Sabres

Record: 7-6-2
Last Week: 23
The Sabres are definitely a strong team, that can win games. This last weekend showed that.

  1. Las Vegas Golden Knights

Record: 9-7-0
Last Week 26
This team had a great week, and this proves to me that they will be very good again when everyone is healthy.

  1. New Jersey Devils

Record: 7-4-3
Last Week: 20
Dawson Mercer has been excellent this season, which has helped this team find its way to win.

  1. San Jose Sharks

Record: 8-6-1
Last Week: 24
The Sharks are getting back healthy, which is important, but they continue to find ways to win games they are not supposed to.

  1. Columbus Blue Jackets

Record: 8-5-0
Last Week: 15
The Blue Jackets had a bad week, and are starting to cool down a bit, but the team has gotten off to a very hot start so this may have been expected.

  1. Boston Bruins

Record: 8-5-0
Last Week: 13
The Bruins had themselves a good week, and it seems their “perfect line” may have come alive.

  1. Los Angeles Kings

Record: 8-5-2
Last Week: 21
The Kings keep on winning, even without some big-time players.

  1. Colorado Avalanche

Record: 6-5-1
Last Week: 14
The Avalanche went 2-0-0 this week and scored like themselves again. An upward swing is about to come for this team it seems.

  1. Nashville Predators

Record: 9-6-1
Last Week: 18
Matt Duchene is taking us all back to his prime years with his play this year.

  1. Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 8-4-2
Last Week: 11
The Flyers are certainly a better team than last year, and that starts with Carter Hart.
The Flyers have looked like a completely different team this year. They are finally getting consistent and good goalie play, along with great defensive play.

  1. St. Louis Blues

Record: 8-5-2
Last Week: 6
After a rough week, the Blues found themselves in a 1-2-1 weeks record. The Blues are still a very strong team even so.

  1. Tampa Bay Lighting

Record: 8-3-2
Last Week: 8
The Lightning has been very hot and cold this season, but when they are hot they are scorching.

  1. Winnipeg Jets

Record: 9-3-2
Last Week: 12
Kyle Connor has been light out for the Jets all season, he has shown that he is a league top scorer.

  1. Calgary Flames

Record: 8-3-3
Last Week: 4
Darryl Sutter has made this team very difficult to play against, and that helps open up the offense too.

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs

Record: 11-5-1
Last Week: 10
After a slow start to the season, it seems the Leaf’s superstars have found their groove.

  1. Minnesota Wild

Record: 10-5-0
Last Week: 5
The Wild could be one of the most dangerous teams in the league, both great offensively and elite defensively. The one thing that can hurt this squad is the goaltending.

  1. New York Rangers

Record: 10-3-3
Last Week: 9
The Rangers have been hot, and that is contributed to their young guns finally starting to score.

  1. Anaheim Ducks

Record 10-4-3
Last Week: 19
A seven-game winning streak is going to skyrocket you up this list, and that is why they are here at 5.

  1. Edmonton Oilers

Record: 11-4-0
Last Week: 3
Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid seem to be scoring two points at least a night, a rate that is insane.

  1. Washington Capitals

Record: 9-2-5
Last Week: 7
Ovi update: 12 goals and 26 points in 16 games, the legend continues. He is now fourth all-time in goals…

  1. Carolina Hurricanes

Record: 12-2-0
Last Week: 2
The Hurricanes didn’t have a busy week, but they remain one of the best teams in the league.

  1. Florida Panthers

Record: 11-2-3
Last Week 1
The Panthers continue to remain the top Cup contender.
