Jackson’s Week 8 NHL Power Rankings

Week 8 Power Rankings

  1. Arizona Coyotes

Record: 5-17-2

Last Week: 32

Number 32 on this Week 7 Power Rankings will remain in sole possession of the Arizona Coyotes, and for good reason. Chychrun’s lack of production is a certain component of the Yotes issues.

  1. New York Islanders

Record: 5-10-2

Last Week: 24

In a complete turn of events, the Islanders are one of the worst teams in the league.

  1. Montreal Canadians

Record: 6-17-2

Last Week: 30

2-7-1 in their last 10 games, that is not going to move you up on the list, and it will get a couple of jerseys on the ice.

  1. Ottawa Senators

Record: 6-15-1

Last Week: 31

The Senators found a way to get back-to-back wins vs the Hurricanes and Avalanche so with that they deserve to move up these rankings.

  1. Buffalo Sabres

Record: 8-13-3

Last Week: 25

The Sabres made a trade for goaltender Malcolm Subban to try and spark some better goalie play, which is much needed.

  1. Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 8-11-4

Last Week: 21

The Flyers are the latest team to fire their head coach.

  1. Seattle Kraken

Record: 9-14-2

Last Week: 26

The Kraken is yet another team with bad goaltender play, and until that improves things won’t get better for the new team.

  1. Vancouver Canucks

Record: 9-15-2

Last Week: 28

The Canucks made some much-needed changes to management and to coaching. Bruce chants filled the rink after their win on Monday.

  1. Nashville Predators

Record: 13-10-1

Last Week: 19

The Predators continue to be very average, winning games they should lose games they should as well, but Saros is playing very good hockey.

  1. San Jose Sharks

Record: 13-11-1

Last Week: 19

Erik Karlsson is finally playing like he deserves that huge contract, and it has helped the Sharks, although they still can’t keep up with the top team

  1. Chicago Blackhawks

Record: 9-13-2

Last week: 27

The Blackhawks are starting to get things going in the right direction, including goaltender play from Fleury, who has been much better as of late.

  1. Los Angeles Kings

Record: 10-10-4

Last Week: 20

The Kings are really just an average team at best, but they are really going to enjoy having Quinton Byfield back next season.

  1. New Jersey Devils

Record: 9-9-5

Last Week: 17

The Devils are a very skilled offensive team, but their defense is where the challenges are.

  1. Winnipeg Jets

Record: 12-8-4

Last Week: 23

The Jets are getting the production they need from their top stars, which has improved their game a lot lately.

  1. Detroit Red Wings

Record: 13-9-3

Last Week: 24

Detroit just does not go away, they continue to be hard to play against and win games they are not supposed to.

  1. Anaheim Ducks

Record 13-8-5

Last Week: 16

The Ducks don’t seem to want to back down easily. The team fights every game, which has kept them in the chase for a playoff spot early.

  1. Boston Bruins

Record: 12-8-1

Last Week: 14

The Bruins have their struggles when the team is 5on5, which does not bode well for their chances to win many games.

  1. Columbus Blue Jackets

Record: 12-7-0

Last Week: 16

The Jackets seem very hot and cold, which is week to week for them.

  1. Dallas Stars

Record: 13-7-2

Last Week: 19

The Stars have kept their hot streak helped by their hottest player Roope Hintz, this has them rise up this week’s Week 8 Power Rankings.

  1. St. Louis Blues

Record: 12-8-4

Last Week: 10

The scoring has been near nonexistent from the blue line, so it brings concern to this team moving forward.

  1. Las Vegas Golden Knights

Record: 14-10-0

Last Week 11

The Knights and the Penguins are teams who could go on a run and get to the top of the conference, but both teams have been very inconsistent.

  1. Pittsburgh Penguins

Record: 12-8-5

Last Week: 12

Jake Guentzel is this team’s MVP so far, he has been riding a very hot streak and looks to keep it going.

  1. Colorado Avalanche

Record: 13-7-2

Last Week: 9

The Avalanche are scoring a lot, but at the same time, they are giving up just as many, making games much closer than they should be. The team although, is good enough to overcome injury issues with their goalies.

  1. Calgary Flames

Record: 15-5-5

Last Week: 6

Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar have been unbelievable this season, when you have a duo as good as them it feels you can never lose.

  1. Edmonton Oilers

Record: 16-7-0

Last Week: 4

The Oilers have no issue putting the puck into the net, it’s keeping them out that has hurt them most as of late.

  1. Tampa Bay Lighting

Record: 15-5-4

Last Week: 8

The Lightning has kept the good streak going even without some of their best players, this team is still dangerous.

  1. Carolina Hurricanes

Record: 16-6-1

Last Week: 2

The Hurricanes had a losing-filled week, but the Canes are still a top team in the league. They do although move down in this week’s, Week 8 Power Rankings.

  1. New York Rangers

Record: 16-4-3

Last Week: 7

The Rangers are still riding this hot streak, even with the news that goalie Igor Shesterkin would go on the IR, they still have Georgiev who has been solid.

  1. Florida Panthers

Record: 17-4-3

Last Week 3

I still think the Panthers are the best team in the NHL when they are playing their style of hockey, but lately, they have been giving up too many goals. They showed they can come back from nearly any deficit, as they came back twice over the week.

  1. Toronto Maple Leafs

Record: 17-7-2

Last Week: 4

The Leafs are becoming a dangerous team, their offense and goalie Jack Cambell are making it very hard for teams to beat them.

2. Minnesota Wild

Record: 17-6-1

Last Week: 5

The Wild have been without Jared Spurgeon their best defenseman, yet they still have been the hottest team in the NHL. This team proved they are a real threat after their win against Toronto. The Wild are working their way up in this week’s, Week 8 Power Rankings

  1. Washington Capitals

Record: 16-4-6

Last Week: 1

Ovi update: 20 goals and 41 points in 26 games. The Caps are back at number one this week for the first time this year, they look like the team who won their first Stanley Cup.
