Joe Brady Hired as Panthers OC

Joe Brady signs with the Carolina Panthers

Just a day after LSU won the National Championship, passing coordinator and wide receivers coach Joe Brady has accepted an offer to become the new offensive coordinator in Carolina. This news comes just days after Brady allegedly accepted a contract extension with LSU. He will join new head coach Matt Rhule as they try to rebuild the Carolina Panthers. Brady will have his work cut out for him, but he has some great players on the offensive side and I am really excited to see what he can do.

Who is Joe Brady?

Brady was born in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and attended Everglades High School, where he played wide receiver and earned a spot on the William & Mary Tribe from 2009-2012. Although he played in 11 games in his junior year, he lacked minutes throughout his years with the Tribe. The most playing time he saw was in his senior year.

In that season, he even earned a starting spot in a game against Richmond. From 2013-2014, he helped coach the linebackers at his alma mater. After that, he spent two years with Penn State as a graduate assistant, and then went to the NFL where he spent two years with the New Orleans Saints, serving as a graduate assistant and he enjoyed his time there very much. He helped coach Drew Brees and got the chance to work under Sean Payton.

LSU Career

After two years with the Saints, Brady inked a contract with LSU to become the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He also went on to split the play-calling with Steve Ensminger and changed LSU’s entire offense. As you may know, LSU just completed a 15-0 season by winning the National Championship against Clemson.

The offense set many records and its quarterback, Joe Burrow, went on to win many awards including the Heisman. Brady also went onto win the Broyles Award, given to the best assistant coach in the nation. It was a very special season for both Brady and LSU.

Future With Carolina

Brady helped implement a spread offense which included many RPO’s. It will be interesting to see what he can do with players such as McCaffrey and it will also be very interesting to see what they will do with the QB situation. They could draft a QB, go with Newton, or give Kyle Allen or Will Grier a chance. I am very excited to see what he will bring to this offense and this team.
