The Miami Dolphins drafted Tua Tagovailoa with the 5th pick in the 2020 draft, but have been subject to trade rumors around Deshaun Watson since early in the off-season. Miami should have a decent market (est. Second-round pick) for the second year QB who still has potential to grow. The Dolphins aren’t the only team that are reported to have trade interest in Watson, with the Philadelphia Eagles & Carolina Panthers calling about him. So, should they look to acquire the All-Pro QB?
We all know Watson has been accused of sexual harassment by 22 women. The NFL hasn’t suspended Watson yet, and he’s still on the Houston Texans active roster. The league could place Watson on the commissioners exempt list after he’s traded & Miami loses draft picks. Watson doesn’t mask all of the Dolphins holes, but he definitely hides some of them. He will help hide the lack of OL play better than Tua, as he has shown his entire career in Houston.
Tua has been the subject of trade rumors as of late, with the two teams rumored to have been the Washington Football Team & the Denver Broncos. Both teams are in dire need of a quarterback, with Denver probably being the best landing spot for him. Tua doesn’t deserve all the blame for Miami’s offensive woes; The Dolphins OL ranks one of the worst in the league after second year OL Robert Hunt moved to Guard & Liam Eichenberg slid into the starting role. Tua hasn’t had a fully healthy receiving group yet either, with Will Fuller having yet to play a full game this season. Tua has thrown for 544 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs through 3 games this season.
Tua has had some praise from his HC Brian Flores, as he mentioned in Friday’s press conference “Tua is our QB. We’re happy with our QB situation”.
Houston’s asking price:
Three first round picks along with two other significant assets (players or draft picks). While its unlikely they will get their asking price, we could be in for an even longer wait.
The trade deadline is on November 2nd.
