New England Patriots 53-Man Roster Prediction

After an up-and-down preseason for the New England Patriots, it has finally come to a close. Now HC Bill Belichick and co. will have to make the final roster decisions by Tuesday at 4:00 PM EST. It won’t be an easy call at some positions considering the depth they have there, specifically at CB. Although, the Patriots will likely try to bring many of their players back on the Practice Squad on Wednesday.

Mac Jones, Brian Hoyer, Bailey Zappe.

Brian Hoyer has $3M guaranteed on his new contract, so the team can’t justify releasing him, along with rookie Bailey Zappe, who has impressed this summer.

Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson, Ty Montgomery, Pierre Strong Jr (cut Kevin Harris, JJ Taylor).

The Patriots’ RB room is full of question marks. What will the role be for Ty Montgomery when he recovers from his injury? How will they work Stevenson and Harris?

Jacobi Meyers, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, Matthew Slater, Lil’ Jordan Humphrey (cut Kristian Wilkerson, Josh Hammond, Tre Nixon).

With rookie Tyquan Thornton expected to go on short-term IR, keeping somebody like Lil’ Jordan Humphrey around is their best bet.

Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, Devin Asiasi (cut Jalen Wydermyer, Matt Sokol).

With the team expected to run more two TE sets, they will have to rely heavily on Devin Asiasi as their backup TE.

Trent Brown, Cole Strange, David Andrews, Mike Onwenu, Isaiah Wynn, Yodny Cajuste, James Ferentz, Chasen Hines, Yasir Durant (cut Bill Murray, Kody Russey, Will Sherman, Drew Desjarlais, Arlington Hambright, Justin Herron).

The OL will need to step up and play well this season. With rookie second-round pick Cole Strange starting at Guard, this OL has some questions that need to be answered this year.

Deatrich Wise Jr, Henry Anderson, Lawrence Guy, Christian Barmore, Davon Godchaux, DaMarcus Mitchell (cut Carl Davis, Jeremiah Pharms Jr, Sam Roberts, LaBryan Ray).

Their DL depth took a hit this summer with Ronnie Perkins going on season-ending IR last week. If they really don’t like their depth at the position, working the waiver wire should be their top priority.

Matthew Judon, Ja’Whaun Bentley, Raekwon McMillan, Josh Uche, Mack Wilson Sr., Jahlani Tavai, Anfernee Jennings (cut Cameron McGrone, Nate Wieland, Harvey Langi).

The Patriots have a lot of backend guys that are still developing, like Anfernee Jennings. It may be tough for them to justify releasing him.

Jonathan Jones, Jalen Mills, Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, Terrance Mitchell, Myles Bryant, Shaun Wade (cut Justin Bethel).

The Patriots don’t have a lot of depth at CB anymore after losing JC Jackson. Keeping as many vets in the room as you can is a must for them.

Adrian Phillips, Devin McCourty, Kyle Dugger, Jabrill Peppers, Cody Davis (cut Josh Bledsoe, Brenden Schooler, Brad Hawkins).

Having Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers as your backups isn’t anything to sneeze at. Dugger is still growing at Safety and can become a good Safety down the road.
