NFL Week 5 Pick Ems and Game Summaries

Week 4 has now come and gone, so we are almost a quarter of the way through this already exciting NFL season. Last week on the pick ems, we managed to go 11-5 again, which isn’t bad. If you’ll notice though, something big happened. Not only did we pick the Packers over the 49ers last week, we guessed the exact score right on that game. The final was 27-17, and that’s exactly what I guessed. That is huge, and maybe the excitement of nailing a winner and score perfectly could set us up for a great week here. Maybe we’ll even guess another one perfectly, who knows. Let’s get into it.

Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks

Winner: Los Angeles Rams

Score: 34-27

Summary: The Rams got humbled last week against Arizona, and Seattle bounced back last week against San Francisco. This is another huge divisional game for the NFC West, but the Rams are just the better team. Matt Stafford should carve up this Seattle defense for 3 scores and 300 yards, and Cooper Kupp will continue his torrid start to the season with 100 yards receiving and a score. Russell Wilson finds D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for scores here, but it’s not enough. The Seahawks fall to 2-3 while the Rams bounce back and move to 4-1.

New York Jets at Atlanta Falcons

Winner: Atlanta Falcons

Score: 27-21

Summary: These are two bad teams. Plain and simple. They both played well last week though, and the Jets even won somehow. One of them has to win here as well so soak it in Jets and Falcons fans, this is a rare opportunity. I like the Falcons in this one. I think Matt Ryan finds Kyle Pitts and Calvin Ridley for scores, and Cordarelle Patterson continues to confuse people with another score for himself. Zach Wilson continues to grow with 200 yards and 2 scores, but the Jets winning streak is stopped at 1.

New England Patriots at Houston Texans

Winner: New England Patriots

Score: 21-6

Summary: Davis Mills casually passed for a 0.8 QBR last week. The Texans plan on starting him again. This could get ugly. The Patriots need to win this game, and they will. Mac Jones will build off of a strong start to his rookie season with 250 yards and 2 scores, while the defense picks Mills off 3 times and holds the Texans to two field goals. Patriots in a landslide.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings

Winner: Minnesota Vikings

Score: 31-20

Summary: Another key division matchup between two sub-.500 teams here. Both these teams need a win to start moving in the right direction, and I think it’ll be the Vikings that get it. They are better than their record and are looking to hit their stride. Kirk Cousins torches this Lions secondary for 3 touchdowns and Dalvin Cook finally remembers how to play football as he goes for 100 yards and a score to close it out. Jared Goff tries to lead a comeback with 250 yards and 2 scores, but to no avail. Look for D’Andre Swift to play a big role as well for this winless Lions squad on Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles at Carolina Panthers

Winner: Carolina Panthers

Score: 27-24

Summary: This game is going to be a lot closer than people think. The Eagles are not a bad team at all, and the Panthers could have their hands full. In the end, I think the Panthers pull this one out in overtime. Sam Darnold throws for 2 scores, one to D.J. Moore and one to Robby Anderson, and Chuba Hubbard runs for his first score of the campaign. Jalen Hurts has a huge game with 400 total yards and 3 scores, but can’t get it done in overtime. The Panthers keep rolling and the Eagles continue to sink.

New Orleans Saints at Washington Football Team

Winner: New Orleans Saints

Score: 28-24

Summary: We have seen four different Saints teams in four weeks to start the season. They have to start letting Jameis Winston throw the ball, and quit playing conservative and scared football. The Washington Football Team, on the other hand, may have found their answer at quarterback in Taylor Heinicke. Atleast for the short term. This should be one of the closest games of the week and it could swing either way. I’m going to bet on the fact that Sean Payton will stop being stubborn and let Jameis start the open it up this week, and that’ll lead to a Saints win. Kamara totals 150 yards and 2 scores, and Jameis Winston throws for 250 yards to get this win. Taylor Heinicke continues to look good at quarterback and throws for 300 yards and 2 scores, but the defense allows a late touchdown drive to push this team below .500. The Saints move to 3-2 and will look to find consistency past this week.

Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars

Winner: Tennessee Titans

Score: 31-17

Summary: The weekend was not kind to either one of these fan bases. The Titans spent their weekend losing to the Jets, and the Jaguars spent the weekend watching a video of their head coach stick his hands where they don’t belong. That’s all we are going to say on that topic. They’ll both have to rally and one of them has to win. It should be the Titans, who are the much better team. Derrick Henry should continue to run all over the place for 150 yards and a score, and getting back A.J. Brown will be huge as he goes for a score of his own and 100 yards receiving. Trevor Lawrence continues to look better with over 250 yards and a touchdown, but the Jaguars fall to 0-5 and Urban Meyer will look to spend this weekend better than he spent the last one.

Miami Dolphins at Tamp Bay Buccaneers

Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Score: 35-14

Summary: The Bucs didn’t look very good on Sunday night against the Patriots last week, but they won regardless. The Dolphins don’t present much of a threat, so this should be a chance to right the ship in Tampa. Jacoby Brissett throws for 200 yards and 2 scores, but it’s not nearly enough. Tom Brady goes for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns, and Leonard Fournette goes for 70 yards on the ground and a score as well. The Buccaneers keep rolling, and Miami continues to look like a the equivalent of a dog that got its head stuck in a food bag and has no clue where it is or what it’s doing. Atleast they’ll secure an early pick though.

Green Bay Packers at Cincinnati Bengals

Winner: Green Bay Packers

Score: 31-21

Summary: This will surprisingly be a game between two 3-1 teams that stack up well against eachother. The Bengals are overachieving and the Packers are hitting their stride, and one will have to fall. I think it’ll be the Bengals in this one. Aaron Rodgers will find Davante Adams and Robert Tonyan for scores en route to a 300 yard passing day. Aaron Jones keeps the game in check with 100 yards on the ground and two late touchdowns. Joe Burrow does what he can to try and win this game, with 300 yards and 3 scores, but the lack of running game and Green Bay’s clock control will ensure a Packers victory in Week 5.

Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers

Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers

Score: 24-21

Summary: This may be bold to some people, but I’m sticking with it. The Steelers have underperformed and the Broncos got a reality check when they played a real team last week. They may even be down Teddy Bridgewater this week, which would only make this prediction seem more likely. I think Ben Roethlisberger will stay out of trouble and find Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool for scores in this one, while Najee Harris gets in for the other one. I’m going to predict a Drew Lock start here, and not a very good one. Lock throws for just over 200 yards and a score, but turnovers plague him and the running game for Denver can’t do enough to save the day. Pittsburgh gets a much needed win and the Broncos fall to 3-2.

Chicago Bears at Las Vegas Raiders

Winner: Las Vegas Raiders

Score: 27-14

Summary: The Raiders had their undefeated season end on Monday at the hands of the Chargers, but they have a great chance to bounce back this week. David Montgomery is out, and there are still more questions than answers at the QB position for Chicago. Look for Jon Gruden’s team to take advantage and win this one. Derek Carr throws for 300 yards and 2 scores in this one, and Josh Jacobs gets going with over 80 yards and a score of his own. Andy Dalton finds Allen Robinson and Damien Williams runs in for a score, but this game isn’t close. The Bears continue to look flat and the Raiders bounce back in a big way.

Cleveland Browns at Los Angeles Chargers

Winner: Los Angeles Chargers

Score: 31-28

Summary: This is going to be a fun game to watch. Two teams on the rise facing off to try and move to 4-1. I personally like the Chargers. They were sloppy early in the season, but have really cleaned it up. They have had a tough schedule and have managed to beat some good teams and have learned how to take a punch and bounce back. They are scary good. It’ll be too much for this lovable Cleveland team on Sunday. Baker Mayfield will throw for 250 yards and 2 scores, while both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt run for scores as well, but the Chargers will just be a little better. Justin Herbert throws for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Austin Ekeler tallies over 100 scrimmage yards and a score of his own. This game ends after a game winning drive late by the Chargers ends in a field goal as time expires. You won’t want to miss this game.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys

Winner: Dallas Cowboys

Score: 35-24

Summary: This Giants team shocked a lot of people with a win against the Saints last week. Daniel Jones looks like the franchise quarterback, and the team is looking better by the week. The could give Dallas a tough game here. I think Dallas has what it takes to pull it out though. Dak Prescott will be asked to do more this week against the team that he suffered his gruesome leg injury against last season, and he will respond with 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. Zeke Elliott will continue to look great with 100 yards rushing and a score of his own. On the other side, we’ll watch Daniel Jones build off of a career best performance last week with 250 yards passing and 2 scores, as well as 50 yards rushing and another score. Saquon Barkley will also total over 100 scrimmage yards for the Giants, but they fall to Dallas in the end.

San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals

Winner: Arizona Cardinals

Score: 34-24

Summary: The Cardinals are now the lone undefeated team in the league. Not many people would’ve seen this coming, but they look good. Really good. A promising win against the Rams last week was amazing to see, as they looked polished and well coached throughout the game. They get another divisional matchup here against the 49ers, and they’ll look to move to 5-0. The 49ers will start Trey Lance and he will show promise, but be plagued by rookie mistakes. Trey Lance will throw for over 200 yards and a touchdown, also running for a touchdown. He will also throw 2 deflating interceptions though. Deebo Samuel will be his go-to guy as he tallies 100 yards and a touchdown. On the other side, we see Kyler Murray throw for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns, also running for one as well. James Conner continues to be a good goal line option as he goes for 50 yards rushing and a score. The Cardinals keep rolling, and the 49ers falling to 2-3 with their third straight loss.

Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs

Winner: Buffalo Bills

Score: 38-35

Summary: This should be a blast of a game. The underperforming Chiefs versus the red hot Bills on Sunday night. Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen will absolutely duel it out with over 700 yards passing and 7 touchdowns combined. It’ll honestly be up to who has the ball last in this one, and I don’t trust the Chiefs defense to make a stop. Josh Allen marches the Bills down the field and Tyler Bass knocks in the game winning field goal to win this one. The Chiefs fall to a surprising 2-3 as their defensive woes continue to slow them down, and the Bills continue to win, as they move to 4-1 with a string of very good wins in their rear view.

Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens

Winner: Baltimore Ravens

Score: 28-21

Summary: This was actually one of the harder games for me to pick this week. I ended up going with the Ravens because their running attack will be huge for controlling the clock in this one. I think Carson Wentz will play well with 200 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Jonathan Taylor will add 100 yards and a score on the ground, but it’ll be the Ravens that pull this one out. Lamar Jackson will find Mark Andrews for a score, and also run one in himself, and Latavius Murray and Ty’Son Williams will also each score for Baltimore. The Ravens move to 4-1, while the Colts fall to 1-4 and are in need of something to go right.
