Predicting the Carolina Panthers’ 2022 Final Record

The Panthers are looking to rebound from a rough 2021 season. They fell to 5-12 and nabbing the highly-touted Ikem Ekonwu with the sixth-overall pick. Despite a solid draft, however, the Panthers have a tough schedule ahead. Will they rebound successfully in 2022? Let’s take a look:

Week 1 Vs Browns:

The Panthers have a chance to beat Cleveland assuming Deshaun Watson is suspended. However, Cleveland is still a much more talented team and will get a narrow win over the Panthers to start 2022. Record: 0-1

Week 2 At Giants:

The “Fire Rhule” Chants will be roaring in Bank of America Stadium if the Panthers start 0-2. I don’t think Rhule lets that happen and gets a desperate win over New York as Sam Darnold has a good game on the road. Record: 1-1

Week 3 Vs Saints:

Jameis Winston has played some of his worst career games versus Carolina and I see that continuing here. The Panthers will stun the Saints here and get an upset win against their arch rival. Record: 2-1

Week 4 Vs Cardinals:

The Cardinals are by far a better team than the Panthers but ever since 2014, the Panthers have had their number. Carolina is 6-0 vs Arizona since 2014 including two playoff wins. That streak will continue here as Christian McCaffrey goes off against a relatively weak defensive front. Record: 3-1

Week 5 Vs 49ers:

Carolina’s win streak comes to an end here. I see this being a low-scoring defensive contest with both passing offenses struggling. Jimmy Garoppolo clutches out a game winning drive in the 4th quarter to give his team the win. Record: 3-2

Week 6 At Rams:

The Panthers may get smoked here. The Rams are a superior team to Carolina in nearly every way. I don’t see any way the Panthers find a way to upset the champs here. Record: 3-3

Week 7 Vs Buccaneers:

Since Tom Brady first arrived in Tampa Bay, the Panthers are 0-4 against the Buccaneers; all four losses of which have come by at least 14 points. They just have Carolina’s number at the moment. If Sam Darnold is playing bad, this is the game where I could see him being benched. Record: 3-4

Week 8 At Falcons:

Carolina finally breaks their losing streak with a win in Atlanta. Panthers/Falcons is one of the strangest rivalries in the NFC. These are always ugly games that for some strange reason, the underdog typically wins. That will be the case here: Record: 4-4

Week 9 At Bengals:

Even if Cincinnati’s offensive line has a bad day against Carolina’s front, Joe Burrow will make it work. They are just too many weapons for Carolina’s secondary to cover. Record: 4-5

Week 10 Vs Falcons:

Week 10 Vs Falcons: Why is this game on primetime? I am a fan of one of the teams playing and I don’t even want this game on primetime. Additionally, the Panthers tend to play horribly on Thursday nights. For that reason, I have Atlanta winning. If Matt Rhule gets fired mid-season in 2022, I could see it being here. Record: 4-6

Week 11 At Ravens:

This is interesting matchup that could surprise a lot of people. The Panthers have the speed in the front seven to contain Lamar Jackson and the secondary to keep Baltimore’s receiving threats at bay. While I don’t have the Panthers winning, I do see it being close. Record: 4-7

Week 12 Vs Broncos:

The Broncos are a bit of a wildcard this season. No one really knows how good or bad they are going to be. Denver is the more talented team in this matchup so I’m going to pick the Panthers lose here. Record: 4-8

Week 14 At Seahawks:

After a much needed bye week, the Panthers fly across the country to face the Seahawks. This might be the only game where the Panthers have both the coaching and talent advantage. I am definitely picking them to win for that reason. Record: 5-8

Week 15 Vs Steelers:

This is a very winnable game for the Panthers. I believe they are more talented than the Steelers, but Mike Tomlin’s ability to out-coach Matt Rhule (or whoever is head coach at this point) may be the difference. I see Carolina losing another heartbreaker at home. Record: 5-9

Week 16 Vs Lions:

Panthers fans get an early Christmas gift with a win over Detriot on Christmas Eve. I believe Carolina’s offense matches up well with Detriot’s defense and I see them putting up over 27 points in a strong win at home. Record: 6-9

Week 17 At Saints:

The Saints get the better of the Panthers in round two of this rivalry. There’s a strong possibility Carolina is out of post season contention while New Orleans may be fighting for their playoff lives. Record: 6-10

Week 18 At Buccaneers:

If the Buccaneers are not resting starters for the playoffs, this could be a slaughter. Carolina ends their season on a bad loss but will have a top 10 draft pick. Record: 6-11
