Part 5 of 8 in the QB Rankings series. In this article, we will be focusing on the quarterbacks from the NFC East.
*This is my opinion and I based this only off of 2019 performances*
1st – Carson Wentz | 10th overall
2019 Stats – 4,039 yards | 63.9 pct | 27 pass TD – 1 rush TD | 7 INT | 7 FUM
Wentz looked average in the first half of the season, but then picked up his play in the second half. He led the Eagles to the postseason once again in a horrible NFC East. What was even more impressive was that Wentz put up good numbers with a makeshift WR core. Even though his stats were not as good as Prescott’s, he played better when it mattered most. He doesn’t look the same after his injury but is definitely improving to become just as good. Wentz still has yet to win a playoff game, so that should light a spark for the team in 2020 after he suffered an injury in their Wild Card game against the Seahawks.
2nd – Dak Prescott | 13th overall
2019 Stats – 4,902 yards | 65.1 pct | 30 pass TD – 3 rush TD | 11 INT | 2 FUM
Prescott has “Kirk Cousins” written all over him. He is a quarterback that is good enough to receive a massive paycheck, but can’t take the team to the promiseland. Prescott joins Wilson, Roethlisberger, Warner, and Waston on the list of a 95-plus QBR in at least three of four seasons. Again, the stats are all there for Dak. He passed for almost 5,000 yards and 30 touchdowns, but just can’t seem to get past the hump of coming up big when the team needs a leader. Prescott is due for a new contract this year (rookie contract expired) and is looking for a lot of money. Dallas has some tough decisions to make to be able to keep all their stars in 2020.
3rd – Daniel Jones | 22nd overall
2019 Stats – 3,027 yards | 61.9 pct | 24 pass TD – 2 rush TD | 12 INT | 11 FUM
Danny Dimes was heavily criticized leading up the start of the preseason when the Giants took him 6th overall. To basically every football analyst, Jones was considered a “Day Two Guy”. Jones took over for the veteran Eli Manning in Week 3 against the Bucs. That was when he turned the criticism around to praise. Jones is the third quarterback of all time to have 3+ games with 4+ passing TD’s (joins Deshaun Watson and Frank Tarkenton). The turnovers and ball security are definitely fixable in his development. I and the rest of the Big Blue fan base are definitely excited to see what Danny Dimes brings in 2020.
4th – Dwayne Haskins | 28th overall
2019 Stats – 1,365 yards | 58.6 pct | 7 pass TD – 0 rush TD | 7 INT | 2 FUM
It’s hard to tell whether or not Haskins played good or bad this season. He did improve each game he played, but the situation he was in wasn’t ideal for a rookie quarterback. Washington needs to improve drastically to help develop Haskins into the quarterback he is supposed to be. Haskins played worse than all of his draft classmates, but again, he was in Washington. I think for the young quarterback he will be a lot better next year and more comfortable with the system, but he needs help.
