The Seahawks 3 Best Additions and 3 Worst Losses This Offseason

The Seahawks had a very eventful offseason. Multiple new guys came in and many longtime players left. With the draft coming up soon, let’s take a look at some of the moves Seattle made in Free Agency.

Top 3 Seahawks’ Additions:

Uchenna Nwosu

Nwosu was a solid addition at a position of need. He fits the direction this Seattle defense is going with more of a 3-4 defense being played in the upcoming season. The Seahawks now project to be pretty solid at EDGE with Nwosu, Darrell Taylor, and multiple other solid depth pieces. Uchenna is now the 32nd highest-paid EDGE in the NFL with an average salary of $9,527,500 over the next 2 seasons. In 4 years with the Chargers, Nwosu totalled 15 sacks and finished last season with a -14.47 VOE (value over expected) which ranks 86th in the league among pass rushers.

Quandre Diggs

Resigning Quandre Diggs was clearly one of our highest priorities as it should be. Quandre was a cornerstone of our defense last year, finishing with a +15.87 VOE (value over expected) which ranked 27th in the NFL among safeties. He also grabbed 13 total interceptions with Seattle over the past 3 seasons. Diggs cashed in a 13 million per year salary over 3 years with $26,980,000 in guaranteed money. This makes him the 9th highest-paid safety in the NFL which is solid market value.

Noah Fant

One of the main pieces in the Russell Wilson trade, Noah Fant is one of the better TEs in the NFL. Fant will fit in well in Seattle with the chemistry between him and Drew Lock already built through their time together in Denver. Fant posted 1,905 yards and 10 TDs over the past 3 seasons after being selected 20th overall by the Broncos. He also finished last season with a +13.26 VOE (value over expected) which ranks 13th in the NFL among TEs. Seattle recently picked up Fant’s 5th-year option which will give him the opportunity to earn $6.85 million in 2023 but in the meantime, Fant will be getting $3,147,381 (36th highest paid TE) during the upcoming season.

Top 3 Seahawks’ losses:

Russell Wilson (Denver)

This was one of the biggest losses in Seahawks history. They lost the heart and soul of the franchise for the past 10 years. Russell finished last season with a +26.07 VOE (6th in the NFL among QBs)

Bobby Wagner (Los Angeles)

Bobby Wagner has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL and the leader of the defense in Seattle for the past 10 years. Losing him was certainly a huge blow to the team. Last season, Bobby had a +14.01 VOE (26th in the NFL among LBs)

Carlos Dunlap (FA)

Not nearly as significant as a loss as the previous 2, losing Dunlap will still hurt the Seahawks somewhat. Dunlap has been a very solid rotational edge for Seattle for the past 2 years. Thankfully, the Seahawks have addressed his replacement in FA and probably will look into other edges in the draft. Dunlap ended last season with a +16.62 VOE (40th in the NFL among EDGE)
