Free Agency is less than 2 weeks away now, & there will be a flooded market of talent for teams to pick & choose from. From guys like Dak Prescott to aging veterans like Jared Cook, there will be quality Free Agents available like we have never seen. In this article, we will look at the 5 best FAs in this class & what landing spots are right for them.
- QB Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys). Dak is arguably the most important player on the Cowboys team. Once Dak went down with his injury Dallas really never looked the same, and quite honestly, they looked bad. Dak needs to use that during contract negotiations with Dallas, showing Dallas just how much they need him to succeed. Before he went down, Dak totaled 1,856 passing yards, 9 TDs, and 4 INTs in 5 games.
- WR Allen Robinson (New York Jets). This may come as a surprise to a lot of people, but if you keep up with his Twitter likes & tweets it makes sense. Robinson has been liking numerous tweets about the Jets, and whether or not you actually believe them, it’s fun to talk about in the off-season. Robinson would make a lot of sense for NY. He will help develop 2nd year player Denzel Mims, while also letting Jamison Crowder do his thing without being focused on a lot every week. TO go along with that, Robinson will not only help them, but also the rookie QB they more than likely draft. The Jets will have around $80-90M in cap space to land Robinson (and give him the deal he’s been looking for) & other toys on offense as well.
3. WR Chris Godwin (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). In my last article, I mentioned Godwin will likely demand somewhere around 420M on his new contract, presumably from Tampa. Godwin has really carved out a role for himself in Tampa Bay, and keeping him around will help the team stay in the Super Bowl hunt. His market value is projected at $17M annually, according to Spotrac.
4. Shaq Barrett (Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Keeping both Shaq Barrett & Chris Godwin will likely mean losing Lavonte David, and I think the Buccaneers can get by without him. But that’s a discussion for another day. Barrett’s market value is projected at $19M annually, per Spotrac. And with $24M in cap space, Tampa will have to backload his or Godwin’s deal to make it fit this year. Barrett had a down year statistically in 2020, totaling 57 tackles, 8 sacks, and 16 QB hits. Barrett should use his 2019 season as leverage come contract time, saying he can pick up those types of stats on a yearly basis.
5. OL Brandon Scherff (Washington). Washington no name placed their franchise tag on Scherff last off-season, and it’s becoming a real possibility again. They are hoping to get a long term extension done with Scherff, and if they can’t come to terms on a deal, a franchise tag is the likely option. Scherff has been a stud for Washington, totaling 3 sacks on 857 snaps played. According to Spotrac, the projected market value is $12.7M annually.
HMs: Aaron Jones (Miami Dolphins), Lavonte David (Cleveland Browns), Trent Williams (Indianapolis Colts), Joe Thuney (New York Jets).
