Top 5 Worst Starting QBs

Every year the league has a few bad starting QBs, and most of the teams switch multiple times a season (2017 Cleveland Browns). This year is no different, in terms of talent, or lack thereof.

1. Jarrett Stidham, QB, New England Patriots. While it hasn’t been announced, Stidham is the presumed starter (sorry Patriots fans). He isn’t the best option for the Patriots, or what their fans are used to, but he could help bring in a few wins for the team. The Patriots have a big QB issue with Brian Hoyer, Brian Lewerke, and J’Mar Smith backing up Stidham. You have to think they go for a QB Round 1 next year to fill the gaping hole (Trevor Lawrence?). Stidham may be their worst QB option on the roster, but the coaching staff seems to like him early on.
2. Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants. Jones was drafted in the 1st round last year to be Eli Manning’s successor, and he was, just a little sooner than you hoped. Remember when Giants fans booed the Daniel Jones pick last year? Now they’re hoping he can turn this franchise around soon. He can still be a franchise QB for New York, but last year wasn’t good at all for Jones, fumbling the ball 18 times.
3. Mitch Trubisky, QB, Chicago Bears. Many people had Trubisky as their top-ranked QB heading into the draft that year, ahead of Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, but they just might not admit it anymore. Trubisky’s run with Chicago is slowly dwindling if that wasn’t already clear by the trade for Nick Foles & the downward trend of Trubisky’s play the last couple of years.
4. Dwayne Haskins, QB, Washington Redskins. Haskins had a rocky start to his NFL career with 13 total turnovers in 7 starts. Like Jones, Haskins can still be a franchise QB, but last year wasn’t a great performance at all by any QB. Haskins will need to improve his passing game (accuracy, vision, etc) before we go into the 2020 season. Those things are tough to teach a QB at any level. Either you’re accurate or inaccurate.
5. Tyrod Taylor, QB, LA Chargers. Tyrod is on his 3rd team in 4 years, every year being replaced by a rookie QB eventually. With the Chargers, it will be Oregon QB Justin Herbert, who will eventually take over as the starter. Tyrod has been mediocre at best throughout his career, regardless of the team. For many teams, he has been a bridge QB until their fully-groomed rookie is ready to take over, but he’s been solid at best for that. He’s a run-first QB who can’t see the entire field, or past 20 yards.

Some of these QBs can still turn it around and have pretty successful careers, but as of right now they will stay on this list.
