The New York Giants unsurprisingly fired Joe Judge after two seasons with the team, along with OC Jason Garrett, and GM Dave Gettleman retired. Now, the team hired Joe Schoen as their GM & are looking for that HC to take them back to the playoffs. With the Giants in the middle of HC interviews, lets take a look at a few top candidates for them.
- Brian Daboll. Daboll seems like the clear cut front runner for the Giants job, and for multiple reasons. One being Joe Schoen in there as GM now, they were together in Buffalo with Schoen serving as Assistant GM. Another reason is how well Daboll has ran the Bills offense in 2020 & 2021, and having a hand in Josh Allen’s improvement. Daboll interviewed once virtually during the weekend, and will get a second interview with them this week.
- Brian Flores. Flores was the most surprising firing of Black Monday, and has received a good amount of interest since then. He previously lead the Miami Dolphins to multiple winning seasons, one being in 2020 when everybody considered Miami as the worst team in the NFL. Flores’ defenses have been up there with the best in the league for multiple seasons, and should help the Giants D get back on track with a lot of talent on that side of the ball.
- Dan Quinn. Quinn previously had a HC job with the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020, bringing them to a Super Bowl. After multiple unsuccessful seasons, Quinn was fired & went to the Dallas Cowboys as their DC. Now, their defense is one of the best in the league. Quinn would certainly help their defense, much like Brian Flores, but probably isn’t the best candidate for the Giants job.
- Leslie Frazier. The Giants had interviews with both of the Bills coordinators, with Daboll the only one to get multiple interviews in NY. Frazier’s No.1 ranked defense definitely underperformed in the divisional round, and he will definitely have to answer some questions about the units performance. Throughout this season, Leslie Frazier’s unit wasn’t bad at all. The unit had the fewest points allowed (17), fewest total yards (272.8), and fewest passing yards (163). Frazier will definitely have those stats to back him up in interviews, but like I mentioned before, will have some questions to answer for the Chiefs game.
The Giants also interviewed Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo and their DC Patrick Graham.
