Draft Needs: NFC East

AFC    NFC
East   East
North North
South South
West   West

The NFC East was easily the worse conference in the NFL last year, as the division winner did not have a record over .500. Three teams, the Eagles, Giants, and WFT, are all either entering or are about to enter a quarterback controversy. This division is one of the biggest question marks in the NFL Draft, and I can almost guarantee some of the most questionable decisions made during the draft will be from this conference. While it is impossible to predict the NFL Draft, laying out team needs, schemes, and past draft picks can give more clarity to a rather confusing process.

New York Giants (6-10)

Draft Picks: 11, 42, 76, 116, 196, 201

The Giants say they do not need a quarterback, but I would argue that they do. Unless you think you have at least a top fifteen quarterback in the NFL, you need a quarterback. I am not confident that Daniel Jones can be a top fifteen guy, and while they may need a future quarterback the Giants are committed to Jones. The Giants biggest need is EDGE rusher, as they were one of the lowest pressure teams in the NFL last year. They have good interior pressure with Leonard Williams, but their outside pressure is close to none. The EDGE rusher class is thin at the top, so it is much more likely to see the Giants go OL or WR at pick 11. The Giants recently signed John Ross and Kenny Golliday, which makes it seem much more likely we see an OL pick at 11 to further support Daniel Jones. In my final mock draft I have them snagging Rashawn Slater at pick 11, as he is a mauler up front and has the versatility to play every position on the field. Don’t expect Gettleman to trade back, as he has never done it before

Philadelphia Eagles (4-11-1)

Draft Picks: 12, 37, 70, 84, 123, 150, 189, 224, 225, 234, 240

The Eagles have an insane amount of picks after trading back with the Dolphins as well as trading Carson Wentz to the Colts. Do I think they will use these picks well, no because Howie Roseman is in charge and their coach is deciding who they draft based upon rock paper scissors. The Eagles have major holes at WR, CB, OL, and in my opinion QB. Hurts was one of the worst quarterbacks in the league last year, even in his small sample of play. It would not shock me if the Eagles were to draft a QB that fell to them, but it is much more likely they draft a corner or a wide receiver. If they truly want to see if Hurts is worth keeping, they should draft a wide receiver, and in my final mock draft that guy is Jaylen Waddle

Dallas Cowboys (6-10)

Draft Picks: 10, 44, 75, 99, 115, 138, 179, 192, 227, 238

The Dallas may be one of the more competent teams in the NFC East aside from the Football Team, but at least the Cowboys have an actual team name. They just resigned Dak to a massive contract and seem to be ready to go all in under head coach Mike McCarthy. Dallas needs help in the secondary specifically at corner, and could also use a linebacker. On offense they could use offensive line, and if Kyle Pitts were to fall to them a tight end as well. I believe that the consensus will be a linebacker or a corner, and with the way the board falls CB will be the most likely selection. In my final mock draft I have them drafting Patrick Surtain II to bolster their secondary to push them deeper into the playoffs. The Cowboys biggest issue is injuries, and if they can stay healthy and McCarthy can actually become competent, I see them making a deep playoff run.

Washington Football Team (7-9)

Draft Picks: 19, 51, 74, 82, 124, 163, 224, 246

Probably the most put together team in the NFC East is the Washington Football Team. Head Coach Ron Rivera has put together a good squad defensively and has added to the receiving core. The Football Team have a major question at quarterback, and unless they trade up into the top 10 for one, it likely a position that will unfilled. At pick 19 they could go a couple of ways. They could take offensive line to give the quarterback they already have support, they could go linebacker to fill one of the last remaining needs for this defense, or they could take another wide receiver to build an elite core of guys. This team is in the position to take a luxury pick as they cannot get a QB, but I think Rivera understands that he has to build a suitable environment for the next quarterback, and with that I have them taking Tevin Jenkins in my final mock draft.
